The NZILA Education Foundation was registered by the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects in 1999 as a charitable trust with the Charities Commission. In 2015 the NZILA Education Foundation was renamed the Landscape Foundation.
Ans Westra
Ans Westra has consistently and uncompromisingly recorded precise, unposed, and often beautiful, images of New Zealanders going about the business of living. She is a freelance photojournalist, and has been responsible for the most comprehensive documentation of Maori culture over 50 years of significant political and cultural change - a substantial addition to cross-cultural visual culture in the twentieth century.
Bev McConnell
Bev McConnell is an acclaimed horticultural identity in New Zealand and is widely respected by both the horticultural and landscape-design industries as one of the most significant influences of the past 40 years. Ayrlies, Bev's 'living work of art', has been developed over almost half a century from the bare farmland she and husband the late Malcolm McConnell purchased in 1964. Today it is recognised by the New Zealand Gardens Trust as a garden of international significance.
Dame Anne Salmond
Dame Anne Salmond is a Distinguished Professor in Maori Studies and Anthropology at the University of Auckland. She is a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences in the US and Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, the only New Zealander to have won both honours. As part of her scholarly work, Dame Anne has developed a strong interest in Enlightenment natural history and Maori and Pacific philosophies relating to land and sea, bringing these together with aspects of cutting edge science to reflect upon environmental questions.
Frank Boffa
Frank Boffa was a founding principal of the multidisciplinary company Boffa Miskell. He has practised as a landscape architect/landscape planner for 35 years and has worked on a wide range of landscape planning, design and development projects throughout New Zealand, South East Asia, and the Pacific.
Kevin Prime
Kevin Prime is of Ngatihine, Ngati Whatua, Tainui and Welsh descent. He is married to Margaret with 13 children and 11 grandchildren. He has been involved in community matters with Marae Committees, Maori Committees, Runanga, Maori development, School Boards of Trustees, Charitable Trusts,Health Trusts, Community Trusts, Forest Trusts, Forest Companies, HealthCompanies, Health Boards, Conservation Boards at local, regional and nationallevels.
Desna Whaanga-Schollum
Desna Whaanga-Schollum. B.Des, toi iho, PMNA Ngā Aho
INDIGENOUS DESIGN / RESEARCH / ART. Desna’s work is connected through the exploration and articulation of cultural identity. Projects see her collaborating with a wide variety of communities, business and design professionals, artists and academics to achieve results which effect change in people, practice and place. Desna serves on several design and arts governance boards and is actively involved in Māori identity discourse in Aotearoa via research, exhibitions, wānanga, hui and speaking engagements. Her Masters Thesis submitted to Science Communication, Otago University, is titled “Taipōrutu, Taonga Tuku Iho. Articulating a Mātauranga Māori Sense of Place.” The thesis reflects upon the complex system of interconnected factors contributing to the current relationship between Māori and their land base.
